G'day Mate, I promised I'd give you more insight on my narrow miss
with the FARC Guerillas of Colombia...
It all started when a special friend
invited me to Cali, Colombia for
Semana Santa ("Holy Week").
I'd been traveling and working intensely on several projects, so
the idea of a "vacation" sounded good. Especially in Colombia,
mi
tierra querida (my beloved land).
I figured I'd break the routine, and plug into a renewed vigor
with my current biggest project, rewriting and updating Napoleon Hill's
famous success classic, Think and Grow Rich.
Little did I know, at the time, that Bill Gates chose exactly the
same time, for exactly the same reasons that I did, to get away. (Though he
didn't choose the "exciting" jungle paradise of Colombia.)
However, that's a principle you might learn. Anthony Robbins
calls it a pattern interrupt.
Let's start by setting the scene in a Colombian jungle in the
Andes...

Here's another scene of what it looked like... The clouds move
in at eye level in the Andes...

Jungle Justice We stop at a jungle pueblo, and the soldiers of the Colombian
army escort me, guarding me from the Guerilla. Soldiers happily
pose with me. Those are
real guns with real bullets.

This is your first view of Lago Calima (Lake
Calima)... Its postcard ambience gives no indication of the events
to follow...

Here I am goofing off on the other side of the
lake... By now we've been jetskiing, boating, and bathing.

Calima. There's lots of reasons
why I love
Colombia... You've already seen some... How many can you see in
this picture? The following dawn guerillas sweep down on the
pueblo...

Back safely into Cali, on the edge of the Andes, looking
toward the development of the plains.

Here I am, doing what I came to do... Getting new insights from
reading Piense y Hágase Rico (Think and Grow Rich)

The first news I get of the action watching the morning news... About guerillas in Calima...
NO! I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT!
But sure as fire, check this out! You can read the front page article, 28 March 2005, in
El Pais, "Triple Secuestro en Calima"...
The people are fantastic in Colombia, but the politics are
dangerous.
How about we meet up in a safer
place?...
